Introduction:
A brief overview of how LED display technology impacts visual experiences across various sectors, and why it’s natural to ask questions before investing.
What’s the difference between indoor and outdoor LED displays?
Although indoor and outdoor LED displays may appear similar at first glance, they are designed quite differently to meet the demands of their specific environments. Understanding the key differences is essential for choosing the right solution for your project.
1. Brightness Levels
Outdoor LED displays:
Designed to remain highly visible even under direct sunlight, these displays feature high-brightness LEDs, often ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 lumens. This ensures clear, vibrant images at any time of day.
Indoor LED displays:
Because they are used in controlled lighting environments, such as shopping malls, offices, and conference rooms, indoor displays require lower brightness—typically between 1,000 and 2,000 lumens—to avoid eye strain and glare.
2. Weather Resistance and Durability
Outdoor LED Displays:
Designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions, outdoor displays are encased in durable IP65/IP66-rated enclosures, making them water, dust, and heat resistant. These displays are designed to operate in rain, humidity, sandstorms, and extreme heat.
Indoor LED Displays:
These displays do not require weather protection, so they are lighter and slimmer in design. However, they are made of durable materials for long-lasting indoor use.
3. Pixel Pitch and Viewing Distance
Pixel pitch is the distance between two LED pixels, measured in millimeters (e.g., P2.5, P4, P6). The lower the number, the higher the resolution.
Indoor Displays:
Smaller pixel pitches (P1.2 to P3) are typically used, ideal for close viewing distances in small and medium-sized spaces such as retail stores, meeting rooms, and control rooms.
Outdoor Screens:
Outdoor LED screens are designed for long-distance viewing and use larger pixel pitches (from P4 to P10 or more). This allows them to be clearly seen from farther away, such as across the street or in a stadium.
The Bottom Line:
At Sage LED Screen, we offer custom-built indoor and outdoor LED display solutions tailored to your needs—whether it’s a luxury boutique, a mega mall façade, or a highway billboard.
